TKC Athletics Hosts Awards Dinner

TKC Athletics Hosts Awards Dinner

On Tuesday April 17 The King's College Athletic Department held its annual Athletics Awards Dinner. The event recognized all of the athletes and coaches in the TKC Athletic Department. Special guests included the college's Vice President of Student Development, Eric Bennett, as well as Acting President, Brigadier General Tim Gibson. The King's College Athletic Director, Bryan Finley, hosted the evening with plenty of help from Assistant Athletic Director, Tom Harman, and athletics student workers, Michel Wenzel and Megan LeBlanc.

This year the format was changed slightly as the Athletic Department invited a guest speaker to kick off the evening. George McGovern, a supervisor with Athletes in Action in the New York City metro area, who has also served as chaplain of the NY Yankees and and NY Giants, received an enthusiastic welcome. He delivered a thoughtful speech on some of the common themes found in Christianity and in sports. He concluded with his thoughts on one of his favorite verses from Paul's letter to the Colossians, "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful" (Colossians 4:2).

The evening proceeded as each team was recognized by their coach and presented with their various awards.

Special recognition was given to ten athletes who were recognized by the national governing body, the United States College Athletic Association with their National All-Academic Team award.
